Curriculum Development
Two words that drill to the core
of who I am are “Educator” and “Mentor.”
I was a public school teacher for 14 years before spending 14
years teaching in a Bible College. When I was asked to write curriculum
for CCBT in 1999, I eagerly accepted the role as it was and is
an extension of my passion for education. Since then, I’ve
partnered with various CCBT team members to write discipleship
and leadership curricula. More recently, when Gene Getz’s
award winning book was published in 1993, I had the privilege
of writing the companion, Elders and Leaders FIELD GUIDE.
I believe that the combination of Gene’s book and the FIELD
GUIDE has the potential to transform your leadership team.
My second passion is mentoring
which I define as a transformational spiritual friendship. I had
the privilege of co-authoring The Leadership Baton with
Jeff Jones and Bruce Miller and in particular enjoyed writing
a chapter on mentoring. If they write “Mentor” on
my tombstone, I’ll rest in peace (not that I’ll know!).
There is a third passion I have
and that is to be remembered as a loving family man. I am married
to Elaine, my bride of 39 years and have three married children,
six grandsons and one granddaughter. My wife would say I have
a fourth passion—sports. Coming from New Zealand, my favorite
sports are rugby, soccer and cricket.
